DESCRIPTIONLa Forêt-Auvray along with eight other villages, forms part of the newly formed municipality of Putanges-le-Lac. Opposite the church, two old halls were built in the 17th and 18th century, one of which was closed and transformed into a communal hall and the other remained open to the delight of hikers who find a pleasant place there to have a picnic. |
LE CHÂTEAUIn the 11th century, the lands of Forêt-Auvray were owned by the 'de Vassy' family and it was certainly at this time that the first fortress was built on the left bank of the Orne. The castle was built in the 16th century, redeveloped in the 17th century and completely transformed in the 19th century. Partially ruined since then, the walls, towers, postern, moat, house, mill and alley are listed as historic monuments remain. Private property, cannot be visited |
LA COURSE DE CÔTESince 1969, around a hundred pilots have competed each year in the 'La Forêt-Auvray' Coast race in order to achieve the fastest climb on a track which is, in the eyes of many pilots, one of the most beautiful in Normandy.
