DESCRIPTION |
In 1873, the priest Victor Paysant (1841-1921) was appointed pastor of Ménil-Gondouin, while St-Vigor church was not yet finished. He worked until 1921 to decorate and furnish the church that became known as 'the living and speaking church of Menil-Gondouin'. He was a man of faith, friend of the poor, a tireless pilgrim, a curator of local heritage and respectful of the past. His many travels inspire him to decorate his church which became a Christian museum. He was inspired by the churches and cathedrals covered with frescoes depicting scenes from the life of Christ. This priest wanted to explain the Catholic religion through pictures, transforming his church into a living catechism.
